THRIVE WHERE YOU ARE® Includes Having a Seat at the Table

An often‑overlooked aspect of choosing a retirement community is how residents participate in governance. At Homestead Village, resident voice is not symbolic—it is woven into how the organization listens, plans, and leads.

Guided by our THRIVE WHERE YOU ARE® philosophy, we believe thriving includes being heard, respected, and actively involved in the community you call home. For this reason, we have intentionally built a governance model that gives residents a meaningful and sustained role in shaping the future of Homestead Village.

  • Our by-laws allow four residents to serve on our 15-member volunteer board.
  • Our residents are encouraged to nominate new board members; consequently, most new board members are nominated by our residents.
  • The Homestead Village board holds an annual meeting that all residents are invited to attend. The board reports on the performance of the organization and seeks feedback from residents.
  • As an official representative of the board, Homestead Village’s president attends Resident Council and Resident Association meetings in order to understand current issues and address them if possible. All residents of Homestead Village are members of the Resident Association, which meets quarterly. The Resident Council meets monthly and is the governing body of the Resident Association.
  • The president of Homestead Village holds coffees with the residents on a monthly basis as an informal communication tool to improve the quality of services and address issues in a timely manner.
  • The board holds periodic resident-board liaison meetings to improve communications and share budgeting information with residents.
  • The board of directors sanctions a bi-annual resident satisfaction survey to receive clear, direct feedback from a large percentage of residents.
Together, these channels ensure that resident insights help guide both day‑to‑day improvements and long‑term planning.

Responsible Governance for a Life Plan Community

As a nonprofit Life Plan Community, the Homestead Village Board of Directors upholds three essential responsibilities:

  1. Providing professional and impartial fiscal and ethical oversight
  2. Ensuring a clear strategic direction for long‑term success
  3. Hiring and holding accountable the management team responsible for carrying out the organization’s mission

This structure balances resident voice with responsible stewardship—supporting stability, accountability, and confidence in the future of the community.

Governance That Supports THRIVE WHERE YOU ARE®

At Homestead Village, governance is not about process alone—it’s about dignity, partnership, and respect. By giving residents a real voice both individually and collectively, we reinforce our promise to help each person thrive where they are, not only in how they live, but in how their community is guided.
