Homestead Village’s Life Enrichment team curates a wonderfully diverse schedule of opportunities for residents. In addition to our recurring weekly activities that include wellness programming, chorale, bridge, mahjong, gardening, pickleball, volunteer opportunities, and more – there are special seasonal activities that are planned. Below is a summary of this fall’s calendar!
September – December 2026
Lectures and Special Events
- For our ‘Ladies Connections’ group in September, we will welcome a Drexel University professor who will present on Virtual Fashion Design. Prior to her academic career, she owned a designer sportswear company whose fashions were carried by Neiman Marcus and Barneys. Her work is also part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s collection.
- In October, a popular Elvis tribute artist returns for an entertaining performance. In November, resident Susan Dunham will share her extensive Night Before Christmas collection of books and memorabilia.
- Our lecture series will include returning speaker John Maietta, who will present Saints, Spooks and Sweets: The Story of Halloween in October.
- Also in November, architect Greg Scott will discuss his new book, Urban and the Chocolate King, which explores the fascinating relationship between Milton S. Hershey and his architect, C. Emlen Urban.
- On November 11, we will honor our veterans with a special Veterans Day breakfast.
- The Auxiliary’s annual Evening of Entertainment will feature Auscultation Brass, including new resident Jerry Rothacker alongside several Lancaster-area physicians.
- December will include our community Hanging of the Greens celebration, Chorale Concert, and festive Holiday Dinners featuring two different entertainment groups.
Local Excursions
- In October, residents will visit the new Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center in downtown Lancaster, followed by lunch at Southern Market.
- Due to its popularity, we will offer two lunch outings to Infusions Restaurant at the Mount Joy Career and Technology Center in November, allowing more residents to participate.
- Also in November, we will travel to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, followed by lunch overlooking the airport runway.
- During December, residents will visit the Elizabethtown Model Railroad Club display at Masonic Village, as well as an evening bus ride through a large holiday lights’ display.
Day Trips
- Residents will go on a day trip to Lebanon featuring a boat tour of the Canal Tunnel Park, a visit to a historic church, lunch, and a guided tour of the Stoy Museum at the Lebanon Historical Society.
- In October, we will have on a full-day excursion with Elite Coach to Raystown Lake. The trip includes scenic lake views, lunch aboard the Proud Mary Showboat, and a ride on the historic East Broad Top Railroad through the beautiful Aughwick Valley.
- In December, we will travel to Peddler’s Village in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
- Our featured overnight trip this season will take place September 28 through October 1, with a four-day, three-night visit to Richmond, Virginia.
Music and Performing Arts
- November and December offer numerous opportunities to enjoy musical performances.
- Scheduled outings include the British Brass Band at the Ware Center, the Illumination production at Prima Theatre, and multiple performances by the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, along with several other seasonal concerts and events.
