Please help us congratulate Sage Matias, our culinarian at Homestead Village who placed 2nd in the National Puree with a Purpose competition!
As the saying goes, “you eat with your eyes first.” The visual first impression of your meal is what makes your tummy growl, your mouth water, and can even influence your taste experience and feelings of hunger (or lack thereof!). For many years, this was a challenge when trying to meet the culinary needs of residents who required softened or pureed diets.
Unidine’s “Puree with Purpose” is an initiative that aims to increase the enjoyment of dining for those who need pureed meals by ensuring that the presentation of the pureed meal will look just like a regular plated dish, and that the flavor will delight even the most discerning palate.
The program provides competitive training on how to create textured meals at the highest level, and has led to innovative new recipes for visually appealing and delicious dishes to meet the needs of seniors experiencing chewing and swallowing difficulties.
The Puree with Purpose Challenge is an annual nationwide competition, this year held in Charlotte NC, where accomplished culinarians and chefs can showcase their pureed meal creations. Dishes are judged on their presentation, taste, and overall quality.
Homestead Village is proud to congratulate team member Sage Matias, who recently earned 2nd place in the nation-wide Puree With Purpose competition.
