Nancy and Allen Tate with their neighborhood's donation for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry.
By 4 a.m. daily, the Lancaster Newspaper is delivered, by carrier, to Homestead Village residents’ driveways. By 5 a.m. daily, Homestead Resident Nancy Tate (assisted by neighbor Glen Witmer when she is not available), voluntarily redelivers the newspapers to over 50 of her neighbors’ doorways so they don’t have to venture down their driveway to retrieve it. Over the years, during the Holiday Season, many residents, in appreciation of this service, have given Nancy gifts of seasonal treats.
This year Nancy requested that instead of such appreciated treats that her neighbors leave a non-perishable food item by their door during the week of December 7, which she would collect and give to the Hempfield Area Food Pantry to meet their significant needs.
Nancy’s neighbors met the request and responded with significant interest and generosity. Over 380 items, weighing over a total of 334 lbs., were delivered to the Hempfield Area Food Pantry, which in turn credited Homestead Village for the donation.
So far in 2025, Homestead residents have donated 1,893 pounds of food to the pantry. This generous donation brings Homestead Village resident’s contributions to the Hempfield Area Food Pantry to nearly ONE TON of food. Homestead Village residents Jim and Linda Bear facilitate Homestead’s ongoing support for this wonderful organization with donation baskets located throughout the campus.
These donated food items helped many local citizens throughout the year, and especially at the Holiday Season!
